God in Banking

Financial concerns are all around us. There are more layoffs, foreclosures, and bankruptcies then ever before. Those of us fortunate to have a job, a place to live, and money in the bank are working hard to keep it that way. So when something disrupts our financial situation our anxiety level rises, at least mine does.

Just this last week we had an unauthorized charge hit our business account. This charge resulted in an overdraft charge and froze the amount of funds of that charge. According to the bank this charge is still pending and can not be declared fraudulent until it "hard" posts. We have been waiting four days now to see if it will "fall off" the record or will "hard" post. Either way it will mean we can file a fraud claim and recoup the fees charged as well as make our funds available for use, but until that time we have no recourse.

Perhaps having worked in the Financial Industry for twelve years has made me a little more particular in keeping our financial records clean and current. I want to take care of this issue now, but I am reminded that we are not to worry, Matthew 6:25-34. Our relationship with God is the most important thing in our life and if we seek his kingdom first then the essentials will fall in to place.

Remembering this not only lowers my anxiety, but it allows me to be personable with the people at the bank. It helps me show them that even in an unfair, anxious moment they can be treated as people. Perhaps my calm, but assertive demeanor can be a witness that this life matters, but my life with Jesus matters more. I am sure a year from now I will have forgotten this little episode, but maybe the relationship I have made at the bank will last forever.
Cast all your cares on him and he will lift you up. Peace to you,
Pastor Randy
