It is true. Vacation Bible School is over for the week. It was a fantastic time. 140 kids milling around the campus with over 75 volunteers. Smells of food, evidence of crafts, songs wafting through the halls, and kids responding with smiles and hugs and high fives.
I can't wait for the barbacue tomorrow. I saw a bit of the rehearsal for the program and if it happen as planned it will be a great time.
What do we do VBS every year? It takes an enourmous amount of energy. It requires people taking time off from work. It requires welcoming people who have never seen before. It is three hours of every day for five days in a row.
VBS is a time when the church can serve the community. It is a time when we can share the good news with the smallest of the small. It is a time when we can provide an enironment that accepts, protects, and celebrates God in our lives.
The songs can be sung at the top of our lungs, the friendships can be long lasting, and we can discover new skills or renew talents rarely used. It is a time of joy and jumping that in today's world is not experience all that much.
I am so glad VBS is part of our annual summer events. Have a great summer!
