This morning I had a new experience. I was in the shower and started to wash my hair when all of a sudden I had this stinging sensation in my eyes. Monday I had talked my wife in to cutting my hair really short, I mean really short, like about a quarter inch from the scalp. It is so great in the hot weather and after showers or swimming I don't have to worry about combing it. One quick swipe of the hand over the scalp and I am done.
Anyway, I realized there was hardly any hair on my head for the shampoo to stick to so it just ran down my scalp into my eyes. It wasn't real painful, in fact it was just irritating. I then realized that sometimes we make changes in our lives and we don't realize the ramifications until we are in the midst of the irritation of an unexpected result.
Saturday I will be talking about "Missional" thinking or theology at our Leadrship Summit. It is a great concept and I think it is a possibility for our church to embrace, but we don't know all the ramifications that will come out of it. If we embrace this concept there will be changes. Some of those changes will be well thought out and intentional, and some of them will not be recognized until they become a bit irritating.
But I am greatly confidant that God will not abandon us if we try a new direction. I believe that if we move in a new direction, like toward being more missional, God will continue to be in charge. If our motivation is connected to our devotion to God we will be full participants in building His kingdom. We just need to make sure that when the shampoo starts to sting our eyes we have a towel available to wipe them clean. Growing with you, even the hair on my head, every day. Pastor Randy
