Joan and I had a great opportunity to attend a retreat at the beginning of this week. The retreat focus was Sabbath. There was a reason that Sabbath, something to be honored, commandment four, began at sundown. No excuses were to be made, when the sun went down you were to begin a time of rest and refocus.
How do you answer the question, "How are you?" Is the answer, "Busy!" Then who makes your schedule? Do you know how to say, "No"? I agree it is not easy to stop at a stop sign when your list is longer than you have room for on your paper. But that is what God wants us to do. We are to stop periodically, at least once a week, and listen to the brook, smell the roses, saunter along the sidewalk, taste the ice cream, or watch the butterflies.
Perhaps a whole day to take a break is too much for too long, then how about talking fifteen minutes at lunch time, after dinner, or before breakfast and listen to the silence. Rest from the cacophony of our surroundings. It is good not just to be rejuvenated, but that time can remind us that the busyness of this world is only temporary.
Let us do something that connects us to the creator with whom we can have a relationship for eternity.
Seeking ways to keep the Sabbath with you,
Pastor Randy
