I have found it interesting that different generations like to use different means of communication. I prefer to talk face to face with folks in order to catch as much as their communication as possible. Body language reveals a lot.
I use the phone to communicate quickly when I can't meet with someone or I just need a quick answer. I am starting to use texting, but still prefer the face to face or the quick phone call. I was surprised this last week when we got our cell phone bill. I was not surprised because of the cost, it pretty much stays the same, except when one of the family gets a new ring tone or two.
The bill lists not only the minutes we use, but also the number of texts we use.
I had about forty texts for last month, my wife had about sixty, our daughter in college had about 2,000, but our daughter at home had about 5,000. I laughed out loud. When I asked my daughter at home about it she said, "Dad, that number is not only what I am texting, but also includes the texts I receive." I thought, "And your point?"
I think it is great young people are communicating. I think it is great that we have phones to keep us in touch with each other at a moments notice. But I also think it is great that we have unlimited texting for our cell phone plan.
Though different generations use different means of communication the one thing I also know is that everyone in our family still reads. I also know that the Bible is the number one best seller. So whether you text, phone someone, or speak to them face to face don't forget that the most important person to be talking to is God and prayer and reading the Bible will help you receive unlimited life. Take time to communicate with God and it will make a world of difference in your day.
Happy talking, phoning, or texting and most of all reading and praying,
Pastor Randy
