Saving Soles

I was asked recently about what kind of work I do. I mentioned I was a pastor at a local church. The person responded, "Oh, you are in the business of saving souls." I thought to myself, not really. Jesus is the only one who can save our soul. I believe I am more in the business of helping people share the good news with those around them. I want to help people walk the walk, or use their soles to travel the journey God has given them.
I see my calling as helping people discover the God who is with us, Emmanuel. I want people to recognize Jesus in their midst. I hope to not only make people more aware of God, but to embrace Jesus as their leader. I want people to see how important they are in God's kingdome here on earth. I want them to see how important and exciting it is to share the good news with others.
I want to encouage people to be the good news in a world crying out for salvation.
This means people need to discover their gifts, seek opportunites to share those gifts, and act out their faith where ever they are, when ever they can.
I want people to be able to walk the walk, as well as talk the talk. That means they need to be God's person in their daily life. They need to be asking God, "What do you want me to say to this person?" Or "Lord what do you want me to do to show the world that you are here among us?"
This means we need to use our soles, we need to walk the path we are given, for some of us are the only ones who can travel that road.
So really the title of this message is using our soles, not saving our soles. Those of us who call ourselves Christians are to be the ones who make the effort to enable the kingdom of God to operate in a world desparately searching for salvation.
So don't save your soul, let Jesus do it, and then use your sole to spread his good news. The world sorely needs it.

Walking with you,

Pastor Randy
