Little Jesus

I felt my message, or sermon, last Sunday didn’t have the punch it needed. It was fairly logical and connected to the scripture passage. The message explored the theme of the first line of our mission statement: “We are a family of believers rooted in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.” Having just finished the book ReJesus by Michael Frost and Alan Hirsch, I agreed with them that our faith needs to be based on Jesus. Our mission is to become ‘little Jesuses.”
Yet, though I laid out in my sermon a logical sequence of what it means to follow Jesus as Lord and Savior, I failed to give examples from any of the gospels. In later conversations with my wife, she helped me see that I didn’t give any hooks on which we could hang our understanding so we would know what kind of example we need to follow.
In order to learn what it means to be a “little Jesus” we need to be reminded of what Jesus said or did. Therefore, throughout this fall I think I will try to always have an example of Jesus, so we can learn what it means to model our lives after him and trust his leadership as our Lord and Savior.
